The MIC was turned down really low so you will have to pump up your volume to hear our thoughtful and insightful video!
When you go to the Dominican Republic as a tourist, this is what you experience (above). Beautiful beaches, resorts, and weather. (This is not where we are going.) However, the Domincan Republic shares the island with Haiti and they are two dramatically different nations. The Domincan society has a very deeply-rooted prejudice towards Haitians. The Domincan government refuses to grant children born to Haitians parents, citizenship or even give them Dominican identification which prevents Haitian children from attending school. Haitians are accorded few human rights and workers in the Dominican Republic are often inhumanely treated. We are going so that we can minister to these Haitian people. So that we can serve them and treat them with dignity
We met with our people on our Dispatch Team. They seem like really nice people. We are going to help to build a pastor's home. Currently the pastor and his family are living in a shack by the sugar cane fields. The house will be 20' by 32'. Pastors are not paid so whatever money he has made has gone to feeding his family of 7. We are told we will sweat through our work clothes everyday. We can not wear shorts and we need tennis shoes or boots.
