When you go to the Dominican Republic as a tourist, this is what you experience (above). Beautiful beaches, resorts, and weather. (This is not where we are going.) However, the Domincan Republic shares the island with Haiti and they are two dramatically different nations. The Domincan society has a very deeply-rooted prejudice towards Haitians. The Domincan government refuses to grant children born to Haitians parents, citizenship or even give them Dominican identification which prevents Haitian children from attending school. Haitians are accorded few human rights and workers in the Dominican Republic are often inhumanely treated. We are going so that we can minister to these Haitian people. So that we can serve them and treat them with dignity
